I have been researching the Ridulph case. It is pretty clear to me that Jack is innocent, and like Ken Hansen was railroaded for the crime. Points of contention. FBI investigation puts Jack in Chicago the day Maria disappeared. He took the train to Rockford at 5:15 and arrived in Rockford at 6:45 Telephone exchange records in Rockford show that Jack made a collect call from a pay phone in the Rockford Post office to his home in Sycamore at about 6:55. He wanted his father to come to Rockford to pick him up. Maria was kidnapped between 6:40 and 7:00 according to her parents and law enforcement. The FBI files and phone records exonerating Jack were not allowed into testimony at his trial For more check this site out... Kathy Sigman was not there when Maria disappeared and it could be piggy back guy was just a harmless man who liked kids and went on his way after giving her a piggy back ride.
We don’t know that he was the perpetrator.
The man who deserves a deeper look is Tom Braddy.
One thing I find most disturbing about Braddy, is that when he and the others approached Johnson’s garage…following the footprints, he hurriedly sent his own son and Bud off after the unknown kidnapper, who may have been armed with a knife or gun and could have potentially harmed them. He alone remained in front of the garage at approx. 7:40 PM, where a short time later, the doll was found by Meredith Strombom. Strombom said she knew the doll was not there earlier and she put the time between 8-9 PM when she made the discovery.
Another troubling thing…when Braddy first discovered the footprints, why didn’t he inform the police? The prints ended at the garage, yet he was able to search and find more prints after going through yards? How could he know where to look…got lucky?
Why didn’t the police/FBI admonish him for possibly destroying evidence (footprints)?
I remember reading one account where the kidnapper was supposed to have asked the girls if they wanted a ride in a truck and coincidentally, Braddy drove a pickup truck.
Braddy stated that he followed the prints to Fair Ave where tire tracks led South, which coincidentally was the same direction and path back to Braddy’s house.
It doesn’t pass the smell test.
As far as Kathie…we don’t really know what is meant by the claim that she knew him.
Did she know him as a neighbor?
Did she just recognize the fact that he was the oil driver?
Did she know him close up in the dark in street clothes without his work coveralls?
Braddy’s whereabouts can not be accounted for from 6:15 to 7:15 when he is home eating dinner.
It was during this time, Maria disappeared.
Braddy worked for the Standard Oil Bulk delivery in Sycamore…so he did not have far to go with his oil truck.
At the very least, Braddy merited a much closer look.
There are several similarities of this case to the Debbie Fijan murder eight years later and only 30 miles away.
